The Emoji Movie (previously Emojimovie: Express Yourself) Releases August 4, 2017


Once again, legend Charles Wright’s “Express Yourself” continues to transcend into the next generation with the release of the 3d animated “The Emoji Movie”.

“The Emoji Movie,” a project by Sony Pictures Animation, tells the story of Gene (T.J. Miller), an emoji with many facial expressions who is considered an outcast because he can’t stick to his supposed Meh emoji, like his father. Gene travels through the various applications found within the mobile phone, along with his friends Hi-5 (James Corden) and Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). Throughout their adventure, they encounter other emojis and face obstacles.

Borrowed by Dr. Dre, Madonna and Diplo; sampled looped by N.W.A. and themed by the NBA, Charles Wright’s “Express Yourself” has touched the lives of generations since 1970; being deemed the most licensed song. Yes, you’ve heard it on ESPN, Burger King commercials, as well as numerous movies such as
Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Little Fockers, Panther, and The People Vs. Larry Flint just to name a few. The song has taken on its’ own personality finding its way into a plethora of of famed artists such as Ray Charles, Della Reese, Roger Troutman & Zapp, The Ohio Players, Naughty By Nature, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and the list goes on as each new area of music evolves. In fact when N.W.A. introduced the song to the hip-hop generation, youth could not believe it was originated by Wright.

“Express Yourself ” continues to transend into pop culture as seen in the recent campaign ” Kenzo and H&M Launched and by the looks of it, “The Emoji Movie” will introduce the legend Charles Wright to new markets. ( )
